4. Extended Analysis

Piso 21 has signed a global distribution deal with Interscope Records, Billboard can exclusively announce on Monday (Sept. 14). Under this new partnership, the Colombian band will continue releasing music through Tres Sietes, their own record label created in collaboration with Sound of Light Entertainment. The agreement brings Interscope into the next stage of the group’s releases under Tres Sietes. The label was first announced in March with the release of their album TRESCENDER, which includes hits like “Volver” featuring Marc Anthony and Beéle. “First, we want to thank Interscope and Sound of Light for believing in Piso 21, for trusting our vision and for joining us on this new chapter. We feel incredibly grateful to have made it this far and to have new paths ahead of us,” Piso 21 says in a press release. “We’re completely aligned and excited about everything we’re building together, with the confidence that what’s coming can be even bigger than everything we’ve created up to this point. Above all, we want to thank everyone who listens to our music, who has been with us along the way and who has allowed us to keep moving forward. We’re incredibly excited to share this new step with you and everything that’s ahead for Piso 21.” Nir Seroussi, president of Interscope Capitol Miami, adds: “You don’t stay this relevant in Latin music for nearly two decades by playing it safe. Piso 21 are still the same group, from the same building in Medellín, and still hungry. They didn’t come to Interscope to start over. They came to keep going, louder.” Formed in Medellín in 2007 by David Escobar “DIM,” Juan David Huertas “El Profe” and Pablo Mejía “Pablito,” Piso 21 released their debut self-titled album in 2012 under the independent Colombian label Star Arsis Entertainment Group. Their sophomore album, Ubuntu, arrived six years later under Warner Music México, a partnership that included four more LPs: El Amor en los Tiempos del Perreo (2021), 777 (2022), Los Muchachos (2023) and 2.1 (2024). On the Billboard charts, the pop urbano and reggaeton band has made appearances on rankings such as Top Latin Albums and Top Latin Pop Albums, as well as Hot Latin Songs, Latin Airplay and Latin Pop Airplay. On the latter, they reached No. 1 in 2024 with the hit “La Misión” with Wisin. For Lorenzo Braun, founder of Sound of Light Entertainment, and Carlos Acosta “Arete,” Piso 21’s manager, the new distribution deal reflects the dimension the group has achieved, the press release states. “Piso 21 has reached a stage in their career where the opportunity is not simply to continue what they’ve built, but to expand the vision behind it,” Braun says. “This partnership with Interscope gives the group and Tres Sietes the space to think bigger, move with intention and create on their own terms. We’re excited to work alongside a team that understands the ambition behind this next chapter and shares our belief in where Piso 21 can go from here. The music they’re preparing is a reflection of that evolution, and we can’t wait for people to hear what’s next.”
